Stagecoach placed an initial order for 100 ALX400-bodied Dennis Tridents for 1999 delivery.

The first 98 of these (order number 9822) were delivered to London and were dual-door. Notably, the first ALX400 Trident for London was painted into chevrons livery and delivered to Manchester.

The other 2 were single-door (order number 9744) and were delivered to Stagecoach Manchester in May 1999. These entered service on route 192 between Stockport Hazel Grove and Manchester Piccadilly.
