Although when the Stag was announced in June 1970 it appeared to ape it's saloon cousin, the 'Innsbruck' Triumph 2000 MkII of 1969, it's actually the other way round. Stylist Michelotti had drawn the Stag first and was then asked to heavily facelift the 2000 range using similar styling cues.
