The Escort replaced the Anglia in 1968 and was instantly successful. Its up to the minute ‘coke bottle’ styling was appealing and still looked contemporary when the 1971 Electric blue example modelled here was produced. The Escort was simple, reliable, easy to look after, and drove very well. The sharp rack and pinion steering, slick gearbox and free revving engines ensured that with a base launch price £666 Ford had a hit on their hands. Then they took it rallying.
