357th FS/355th FG, Steeple Morden, April 1945 One of the 355th’s original pilots, John ‘Moon’ Elder became CO of the 357th FS in July 1944, and remained in command until VE-Day. The unit’s most successful pilot, he claimed eight aerial and thirteen strafing victories, a number of which is scored in this aircraft.
