Back in 1975, all-over advertising was introduced on Blackpool’s trams with two designs, the Empire Pools double deck Balloon car No.707 and Brush Railcoach 622, advertising the Council owned Blackpool Zoo Park. Since then over 150 different advertising designs have been produced; many have already been the subject of Corgi models. Until his death in 2004, the majority of these designs were the work of highly skilled signwriter Bryan Hamer and this tram is dedicated to his artwork and skills in creating these colourful creations that added to the tram. The trams were Brian’s canvas and many of the 150+ designs he painted were works of art in their own right. Since 2004, the traditional skill of the signwriter has been replaced by adhesive vinyl graphics applied to the trams. The Blackpool Zoo Park tram No.622, more commonly known as the ‘Tigerrific’ tram, is one of the best known of Bryan’s creations and operated from 1975 to 1980. The Lancastrian Transport Trust, a registered charity that preserves Blackpool’s transport heritage, is hoping to recreate the original Tigerrific tram as an operating ‘work of art’ in memory of the many designs that Bryan Hamer produced and his contribution to Blackpool’s tramway heritage
