Limited Edition of 4,512. Manufacturers Description In 1976 a new generation of Porsche cars with water cooled front-mounted engine and "transaxle"-gearbox was presented to the public for the first time - in the shape of the Porsche type 924. In Germany public opinion about the new car was divided. While the exterior appearance was identified and accepted by Porsche fans as being Porsche-like, its technical identity was compromised by the"organ donor" Volkswagen. Primarily it was meant to be a successor to the VW-Porsche type 914, but finally VW refrained from offering the 924 in its own program. So it was ennobled with its manufacturer's prestigious emblem (an honour that had never been granted to the 914) and became Porsche's entry-level car. Fully accepted was the series only with the introduction of the Porsche 944 in 1981. With its wider fenders this car appeared more aggressive than the type 924 and its 2.5 litre 4-cylinder engine (actually one half of the 928's V8) with a performance of 163 hp provided decent propulsion. In 1991 the 944 production was discontinued with the launch of its successor, type 968. View other product and find out more about Pauls Model Art - Minichamps and Minichamps.
