British Layland's one attempt at making a rally car out of the Austin Allegro was during 1975-76. Political in reason, the unusual but not very successful car made six appearances, winning its class in just one event but retiring on all other occasions, usually with transmission failure. The engine, transmission and front drive were like that of the Mini, but the car was much too heavy to achieve any success.
