Thomas Wynn began the Wynns dynasty in Newport in 1863. One of his ten children, Robert Wynn, gave his name to this famous haulage company when, on his father's death in 1878, he took over the business at the age of 15. Steam vehicles were introduced into the Wynns fleet in the 1890s with Fowler traction engines being replaced in the early 1920s by Foden and subsequently Sentinel steam wagons. Wynns became part of the United Transport Group in 1964. In 1995, Peter, a great grandson of Robert, founded a new Company, Wynns Ltd. The Company operates as Heavy Transporation Consultants specialising in transportation engineering projects and strategic advanced planning to the power generation and manufacturing industries.
