This famous haulage firm was started by W.G.D. Pollock in 1935, which one lorry based at Corstorphine, to the west of Edinburgh. The fleet had grown to 16 vehicles at the time of nationalisation in 1949. Following de-nationalisation in 1954, the company moved to Musselburgh, to the east of Edinburgh from where it has operated every since. The size of the fleet grew steadily during the 1960's and 1970's to a peak of 65 vehicles. In the 1960's Pollock operated a mixture of AECs, Leylands and Albions in both rigid and articulated form. But it was Atkinson 8 wheelers and artics which predominated. The artics ran with all types of trailer including platforms, coil-canvas, tankers, crown-lock vans and low-loaders. The Atkinson 8 wheelers were mainly platforms but two tankers for the transport of fuel oil were also operated. A number of features made the Pollock vehicles stand out. They were always resplendent in their turquoise and red livery with expertly applied signwriting. In addition, each vehicle has an individual "name" painted across the front on a tartan band, which also appeared on the cab doors. The practise of allocating an individual name, and applying a different tartan to each vehicle, continues to the present day. View other product and find out more about Corgi Classics.
