Founded in 1940 by Sam Anderson, Anderson's of Newhouse is currently one of Scotland's largest and best known haulage Companies. During the 50s, the fleet of 100 lorries included 40 tippers employed on coal haulage from mine to power station. The Leyland Clocks The idea of clocks advertising Leyland Motors on the main trunk roads was a coup for Leyland. The first clock appeared in 1930 and there are believed to have been seven althogether plus a replica in South Africa. The towers were designed by Franco Reflex Signs of London and the mechanism by William Potts and Sons Limited, clockmakers of Leeds.
