Corgi Classics - Original Omnibus Company |
After the second world war, one of the first places to see a return to peacetime levels of visitors was the famous Lancashire resort of Blackpool. To cater for the transport needs of such vast numbers of hoildaymakers, assistance was provided by the large tramway fleet which included many Ballon type double deckers. Their use in peak times especially enabled many hundreds of visitors to be moved in a very short space of time. Though Corgi's miodel is represented in the 1960s livery, the Balloons continue to give excellent service - fine old ladies now in their 63rd year, a tribute to the man who designed them, Walter Luff - General manager of the transport undertaking from 1933 to 1954 - and to these who followed him, who have had the foresight to retain a Tramway system through difficult times, until now such things are becoming fashionable in cities such as Manchester and Sheffield again.
