Vulcan XL426 entered service with No.83 Squadron at Scampton. In the early 1970s XL426 was allocated to No.617 Squadron and apart from occasional use by 230 OCU and a short speel with No.27 Squadron, she remained with the squadron until it disbanded in 1981. Joining No.50 Squadron in 1982, the plane was granted a new lease of life by the Falklands conflict and was eventually withdrawn from service on 31st March 1984. XL426 is now housed at Southend Airport where it is owned by the Vulcan Memorial Supporters Club who support its continued preservation.
