B-17E 41-24485 went into service with the 8th Air Force's 324th Bombardment Squadron based at Bassingbourne, Cambridgeshire. Coded DF-A, and named 'Memphis Belle' the aircraft archieved celebrity status as the first 8th Air Force Bomber to complete 25 missions. Today the aircraft is on display at Mud Island, Tennessee.
