Corgi Classics - Aviation Archive |
The RAF first took delivery of the Hercules, designated C-130K, C1 in December 1966. The first Hercules Squadron, No.36 was formed at RAF Lyneham in July 1967. Such has been the success of the aircraft that it is still in production with over 2000 having been produced for service worldwide. XV196 represents a C-130 painted in an experimental desert pink camouflage. It was the first of only 3 Hercules painted in this washable scheme and saw service during Operation 'Desert Storm', the Gulf War of 1991.
