Corgi Classics - Aviation Archive |
By the early 1980s, the Victor tankers were being re-painted in the brown colour known as 'hemp', but the Victor's claim to fame came during the Falklands War in 1982, refuelling aircraft between the UK and Ascension Island. Then again, it proved invaluable during the 1991 Gulf War, when it refuelled NATO fighters operating from Bahrain. Like many RAF aircraft during this campaign, XM715 was adorned with 'nose art' being named "Teasin' Tina", which is faithfully reproduced on this model. The Victor tankers were finally retired from service at Marham in September 1993 and XM715 ferried to Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire for preservation by the British Aviation Heritage Collection.
