Sentimental Journey served in the Pacific until the end of the Second World War. After the war, it was trasferred to Florida for service as an air-sea rescue craft and in 1959 went into military storage in Tucson, Arizona. It was then sold to a California Corporation as a borate bomber, flying thousands of sorties against forest fires. In 1978, at the formation of the Arizona Wing of the Confederate Air Force, B-17G N9323Z was donated after painstaking restoration to its original Wordl War II configuration.
