The Spitfire modelled is R6699 and was the 105th of a batch of 450 delivered between May 1940 and April 1941. It served with Squadron Nos 609, 54, 41 and 313 and finally with 61 OUT before it broke up in a spin and crashed at Heston on 24th December 1941. It is depicted with code PR-L of Nos.609 Squadron and was flown by Plt Off David Crook. While involved in a successful engagement with Bf 109s over Poole Harbour on 13 August 1940, Crook downed a 109E of II./JG 53 flown by Uffz Hohenseldt, which is also modelled in this set.
