Corgi Classics - Aviation Archive |
The P-51 Mustang was the America's answer to the Spitfire during World War Two. This particular example, serial number 44-14450 was the mount of WW2 Triple Ace fighter pilot, Colonel Clarence 'Bud' Anderson, who served two combat tours escorting heavy bombers over Europe. The aircraft wears the unit markings of the 362nd Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group, United States Army Air Force. This actual aircraft no longer survives, but there are two preserved airworthy Mustangs that wear the colours and markings of this famous aircraft, one flown in the USA and one based at North Weald, England and operated by the Scandinavian Historic Flight.
